Sleeping Time

Sometimes I forget to wake up

Sometimes I sleep for so long

That sleeping becomes more

Real than that other place
But there is always a sound

Or a misstep, or a whisper

Or a forgotten voice

To remind me

I’ve slept too long
I want you so desperately

To not be part of my

Sleeping time
For it is rife with monsters

And darkness and pain

But not the good darkness

Or the good pain
Not the kind that causes

That sweet, sweet release

But the kind that damages

Unsuspecting souls
And yet, when I am

Jolted awake

That keening sound

Coming from my dry lips

Is the knowledge

That you were only

A sweet, sweet dream
